Operation Terra Community Site
These guidelines apply to both the mailing list and the Wiki. Please try to follow them as best you can. We’re not big on rigid enforcement here, but these are meant to make the environment comfortable and safe for all.
1. Stay on topic. There are no restrictions on what you can say, but out of respect for the rest of the participants we ask that you try to keep posts to the topic that brought us all here. Considering the scope of the Messages, that is not difficult.
2. No lengthy quotes, especially of the Messages. It’s fine to quote short passages for the purpose of commenting on them; that is “fair use” under copyright law. But don’t quote an entire Message just to ask what people think of it; that’s a violation of Lyara’s copyright, and will not be tolerated here. Instead, refer to the Messages by title, so that others can find them on Lyara’s site or in their printed copy.
3. No obscenity or profanity. We may use it in everyday life, but it has no place on a public list where it may offend others. Be civil.
4. No personal attacks. While spirited discussions are encouraged, in respect of the “Allow All Things” advice from the Hosts, please address the issues and not personalities. After all, only the Creator knows what is in someone else’s heart, or why they say what they do. And it’s very easy to have misunderstandings in posts where the usual vgisual and bodily cues are all missing. Sarcasm, in particular, is easily misread.
5. No hate speech. You may think some particular ethnic group is behind all our troubles, but that is never the case. We want to have a “hate-free zone” here. Racist, sexist, and homophobic comments are grounds for immediate and permanent removal.
6. No commercial use. This site is an “.org”, and it’s not appropriate to use it to sell products. You may recommend books, music, other sites, and anything else you’ve found helpful in connection with OT, but frequent repeats of such recommendations may start looking like spam, which is unacceptable.
